Nursery Garden Centre Labourer

About the role

Poyntons Nursery is seeking a Nursery/Garden Centre Labourer to join our dynamic team on a casual basis. This role is based at our location in Essendon VIC 3040 and is fundamental to the smooth operation of our garden centre. As a Nursery/Garden Centre Labourer, you will provide essential support across all areas of our nursery operations. This position offers flexibility typical of casual work, allowing you to balance your employment with other commitments.

What you'll be doing

1. Assisting with the delivery, unloading and organisation of stock and plant shipments

2. Cleaning and maintaining the goods received pathways and outdoor areas

3. Assisting customers with product selection, loading purchases and general enquiries

4. Operating and maintaining basic gardening equipment and tools safely

5. Supporting the team with inventory management and stock rotation

6. Following health and safety procedures and maintaining a safe working environment

7. Performing general labouring tasks and assisting staff as directed

What we're looking for

2-3 days per week, no night work

1. Physical fitness and the ability to perform manual labour tasks, including lifting and carrying items of varying weights

2. Ability to lift and carry items weighing between 10-20kg

3. Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic

4. The ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team

5. Good communication skills and a friendly, customer-focused approach

6. Willingness to learn and take on new tasks

7. Basic knowledge of garden centre operations is advantageous but not essential

8. A current driver's licence is desirable

9. Experience in horticulture, landscaping or garden centre work is preferred but not required

10. Some experience in nursery, gardening or retail work is preferred to help you succeed in this role

11. Australian work rights are required for this position
