Your new company

Construction in Canberra is on the rise across both residential and commercial projects, including new buildings and refurbs. Hays are supporting a range of construction companies at various stages of their projects who have short and long term needs for construction workers on labour hire contracts.

Your new role

Our clients utilise CW1s for a range of on-site work, including tasks such as helping install flooring, assisting a range of trades, general site clean up, shifting construction material components, operating basic tools and machinery and more. These tasks vary depending on the client and site as well as the project and will also change as the project progresses.

What you'll need to succeed

Tickets: All ACT sites require White Card, Asbestos Awareness & Silica awareness tickets before working on-site and copies are required when completing inductions. Any additional tickets outside these 3 are advantageous.
Experience: Demonstrated experience working in construction general labouring roles is a must
Work Ethic: Ability to follow instructions from your supervisors, work autonomously and show initiative to find or ask for more work after completing your duties.
Physical Fitness: Must be physically fit and able to handle the demands of manual labour, including lifting heavy objects and working in various weather conditions.
Tool Use and Safety Awareness: Ability to use basic hand and power tools and the understanding that construction sites are high-risk environments that you need to conduct yourself safely in.
Reliability and Transport: Punctual, dependable, and able to work consistent hours, including having reliable transport to get to and from the site, as many sites are not located in areas with sufficient public transport.

What you'll get in return

Competitive Wage: Fair and above award pay reflects industry standards and your level of experience starting at $36 per hour. When working under the building and construction award, you are also eligible to receive certain allowances as well to top up your pay check.
Skill Development: Enhance your skills and knowledge through hands-on experience in various tasks and projects.
Job Satisfaction: Achieve a sense of accomplishment by contributing to the successful completion of projects in the Canberra market.
Networking: Building valuable connections with industry professionals, supervisors, and team members and increase your opportunities for your career development.
Job Variety: Engage in diverse projects that keep your work interesting and challenging. When one contract ends, your consultant works with you to line you up for another ASAP
Work-Life Balance: Most construction sites start early and finish early. This offers you a balanced work schedule that allows you to enjoy personal time and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
